Switzerland's first Honorary Consulate in Wales, known as the Consulate of Switzerland in Cardiff and headed by a Honorary Consul has been created in October 2006 in recognition of Wales' increased importance in political, economic and cultural terms. It focuses mainly on economic relations and on building cultural and scientific links and act as a first contact point and information centre in Wales. It also caters for the increasing Swiss Community in Wales. It does, not deal with consular affairs such as passports, visas, legislation and civil matters. These should be directed as before to the Swiss Embassy in London.
