Thank you to all who offered hospitality and who contributed to four successful National Day events in Wales
In his first official media engagement since taking up his post in August, the new Swiss Ambassador to the United Kingdom Anton Thalmann gave an interview to World Radio Switzerland from his office in London. Mr. Thalmann, who has previously served as Ambassador to Belgium and Canada, stressed the continuing significance of the Swiss-UK relationship and the important work being carried out by both governments in the field of financial services and international cooperation. He also offered personal insights into the daily routine of ambassadorial life. You can listen to the full interview here:

A social Platform for the Swiss in Wales, their families and friends
The Swiss in Wales now have their own social platform where they can exchange news, photos etc. with each other, their friends & family wherever they might be. Unlike Facebook it is a totally private site, (cannot be googled) open only to signed up and approved members. To join the site you need to receive an invitation link. If you are interested in joining mail Ruth at the Consulate who will then forward you the sign up link.

It is for the ninth time the Swiss will participate in the World Cup. Their biggest WC successes were in 1934, 1938 und 1954, when Switzerland reached the quarter finals. After decades in the football wilderness, the Swiss national team made a successful international comeback, qualifying for the 1994 and 2006 World Cups and the 1996 and 2004 UEFA European Championships. In 2008, the UEFA European Championship, hosted jointly by Switzerland and Austria, has seen the national team battle it out in front of a home crowd against the best teams in Europe. read more here

Unfortunately and not good news for our team, Swiss footballer Marco Streller (FC Basel) will not play in the 2010 World Cup after breaking down in training with a thigh muscle injury.read more here
However, in the meantime Costa Rica beat Switzerland 1-0 in a friendly game ahead of the World Cup in South Africa which means that the match against Honduras (Honduras eliminated Costa Rica in the WC qualification) will also be a challenge. The Swiss last test match before flying off to South Africa was on Saturday 5th June in Geneva against Italy. It finished with a draw. click here

Swiss Descend on Welsh Ski Slopes
Switzerland Tourism, Emmi UK Ltd and the resorts of Champery and Les Crosets, Switzerland will be descending onto the slopes of Pontypool, South Wales on Saturday 12th June to watch some Welsh ski racing and to promote snowsports in Switzerland. Swiss Raclette will be available All welcome!

However, in the meantime Costa Rica beat Switzerland 1-0 in a friendly game ahead of the World Cup in South Africa which means that the match against Honduras (Honduras eliminated Costa Rica in the WC qualification) will also be a challenge. The Swiss last test match before flying off to South Africa will be on Saturday 5th June in Geneva against Italy.

Swiss Choir from the Ticino in Cardiff on 20th June: A great success!
In the evening of June the 20th June, at 7.30pm the choir Vos da Locarno from the TICINO region of Switzerland travelled to Wales to entertain the Ambassador of Switzerland, representatives from the Embassy and the various UK Consulates, delegates of the FOSSUK conference, dignitaries of Cardiff, as well as the Swiss in Wales and the Welsh public with their Italian sung repertoire at St Peter's Church, Roath. The Swiss choir was be joined in the 2nd Half of the concert by the Welsh Choir Cor Godre'r Garth a well known choir from Pontypridd which regularly competes in the Welsh National Eisteddfodau.
